DIY Dressed Up Keys

17 Apr

Posted by: Katie

This DIY is as easy as painting your nails! Without worrying about the opposite hand thing, so even easier!

I had three little keys I wanted to dress up so I got three different, but complementary, colors and painted the top with a couple of coats each.

I used a chunky glitter nail polish to give them a top coat and some sparkle.

Ka-pow. You’re done.

DIY Oxford Pumps

27 Mar

I used to have the cutest pair of oxford shoes growing up that I wore all the time. Since then I haven’t owned a pair of oxfords but when I saw the J Crew Mona oxford pumps (on sale right now) I loved them, but thought I could recreate them at a much cheaper price.

The inspiration:

Oh yeah, that is glitter on those toes

I found these Joan And David black pumps on sale and they were perfect because they already had the oxford detail stitching on the toe and heel.

Before:

Joan And David Milestone pumps

I used painter tape to tape off the toe and heel and used white nail polish to paint two coats of white.

Two coats of white nail polish

Then I taped plastic saran wrap on the black parts and covered the insides of the shoe so I could spray a clear gloss on top of the white. Immediately after I sprayed the gloss I sprinkled white glitter on top. I let that sit for a little bit and removed the tape.

After:

ooh la la

Sparkly little toes

I love the way they turned out. The glitter is subtle enough that I think they still look professional and it also covered any painting flaws. If they rub off at all I can easily add more nail polish and glitter.

…with summer temperatures during the winter
It was 80 degrees on New Year’s Eve…and the next day…and the day after that…and it’s been in the 70’s every day since.  I can’t even tell you how great it feels to be warm again.  And I am fully aware that 50 isn’t even that cold, and it will likely drop again, but these past few days have been so wonderful.  It’s getting me excited for my upcoming trip to South America and all the trips we’ll be taking during the summer!  And SWIMSUIT SHOPPING!!! And summer outfits!!!! *Liz*

All from Victoria's Secret. Semi-Annual Sale going on RIGHT NOW!

Love these summer outfits (found on Pinterest)

…with 2012 Trip Planning!!!
So the other night Dave and I went through the 2012 calendar to figure out our vacations.  A lot of it is dependent upon flights being open and if we can get the time off from work, but we’ll be all over the country (and continent) this year!  We have South America next month, Maui in June, Maui for Christmas, and plenty of weekend trips to Santa Fe, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, NYC, Richmond, Chicago, San Diego, and Cabo.  Tomorrow is the start of our 2012 travels; we’re heading to Park City, Utah to attempt to ski.  Neither of us has been before and we refuse to take lessons ($120 each? Nope.), so here’s to hoping I don’t come back with any broken bones (highly unlikely, btw, my bones are made of glass).  *Liz*

This better not be the bunny slope. I'm going to die.

Giorgie Jewelry by Marina Pecoraro

8 Nov

While I was in NYC this past weekend we did less touristy things and really explored different parts of Brooklyn, where my sis-in-law lives.  She took us to some amazing restaurants (here and here), along with the Saturday food market, etc.  One really cool place we went was called Artists and Fleas.  It’s an indoor market where local vendors can showcase their goods.  Now, vintage usually isn’t my style, at least in clothing, so most of the items featured weren’t peaking my interest, BUT there was one jewelry designer that caught my eye, Giorgie Jewelry by Marina Pecoraro.

I believe they are a husband and wife team who design simple, elegant, and feminine pieces and my sister-in-law and I just fell in LOVE!  Because D was with me I knew I couldn’t just drop $100 on jewelry, so I grabbed their business card and turns out they have an Etsy shop, yessss.   They had so many more pieces at the market than are online, but I bet you could email and ask for specific designs.  Check them out, I think you’ll really like their designs and if you ever end up in Brooklyn definitely head over to this market!  Below are a few of my favorite pieces:

For some reason, I always gravitate towards black. I also have a personal belief  that you can never have too many little black dresses which has resulted in quite a few black dresses for all occasions in my closet. Some are easy to throw on under a blazer for work and some are left over cocktail dresses from Black & White sorority formals. I recently ordered this dress from ASOS, a site that I l enjoy browsing. I wore it for a formal dinner and loved it because it is so comfortable, but still structured and sharp looking.
