Spaghetti Squash

28 Sep

I don’t normally prefer squash so it took a little while after I heard about this surprising little vegetable to actually try it. I thought it would be kinda like that time I tried tofu noodles. Gross. This is not gross, this is delicious! A little spaghetti squash makes a lot so since I was cooking for two people tonight I got a little guy.

Spaghetti Squash

I split it right down the middle and scooped out all of the seeds and strings.

Once the two halves guts are out, you have two options. Most recipes suggest you put the squash in the oven, and I will try it that way, but I actually cooked mine in the microwave. The oven way normally takes about an hour and since I had less time I opted for the microwave route. I put a half cup of water in the bottom half and put the other half on top and microwaved for 11 minutes. When it is ready you will be able to squeeze the top (with an oven mitt, it will be kind of super hot) with little resistance. Take a spoon to the inside of the squash and noodles will emerge. Like magic!

The "noodles"

I also could have made my own sauce, but I chose the Newman’s Own fire roasted tomato and garlic pasta sauce.

I cooked about a pound of ground turkey and added the sauce. Put some shredded parmesan cheese on top and make some garlic bread, if you weren’t making spaghetti squash to avoid the carbs, and wa-LA. Dinner time!

DIY Gift Idea

27 Sep

Sometimes something comes up where you need to bring a gift or would like to show your appreciation, congratulations or well wishes. In those instances, it is nice to have something on hand. Gift tags with your sentiment on them are the perfect way to say what you want. Then when you put the tag on something almost everyone would like, wine or perhaps a little box of candy, you have a foolproof gift.

I have a stamp set that can be interchanged with an acrylic block that is pretty handy. I also used raffia ribbon, and two metallic ink pads. I stamped the card stock and used my finger with the extra ink on the stamp to make a messy border.

Happy Birthday Bottle

Oh my goodness, look how you are celebrating your friends birthday with a thoughtful Malbec.

Thank You Case

Give a big thank you with a big case of beer.

Happy gifting!

After going to a rugby game with the boyfriend we went to a bar close by and accidentally stumbled upon a CD release party. For a white rapper. He was no Eminem. It was hilarious. *K*

New Favorite LBD

For some reason, I always gravitate towards black. I also have a personal belief  that you can never have too many little black dresses which has resulted in quite a few black dresses for all occasions in my closet. Some are easy to throw on under a blazer for work and some are left over cocktail dresses from Black & White sorority formals. I recently ordered this dress from ASOS, a site that I l enjoy browsing. I wore it for a formal dinner and loved it because it is so comfortable, but still structured and sharp looking.

Damn, I was going for thoughtful…

23 Sep

We don’t take ourselves seriously.  Neither should you.

Joey: Which one do you like better?
Bianca: Umm, I think I like the white shirt better.
Joey: Yeah, it’s-it’s more…
Bianca: Pensive?
Joey: Damn, I was going for thoughtful.

We are K and L – best friends since we were 4 years old.  We are both tall, blonde and look shockingly similar to each other, often mistaken for sisters, sometimes even twins.  We have everything in common – from going on adventures to shopping on the cheap to laughing hysterically at the most random and awkward moments of our daily lives.

This is a blog about…everything.  Outfits we love, movies we recommend, beauty tutorials, how to make table centerpieces for the holidays and funny stories like the time L fell into a zebra cage when she was younger.  It’s meant as an all around go-to for those who read it, and we hope it is helpful, or at the very least entertaining.  If you would like us to post about specific beauty products or want to see particular tutorials or craft ideas, please email us and we’ll do our best to help you out!
